Alamance Battleground State Historic Site

On May 16, 1771, royal Governor William Tryon and a North Carolina militia force of around 1,000 men ended the War of the Regulation by defeating some 2,000 backcountry farmers known as the Regulators in a two-hour battle near Alamance Creek west of Hillsborough.
